Berkshire pigs are a heritage breed that have always been bred for meat quality first. They produce incredibly flavorful red meat that is well marbled and tender.
We were first introduced to the breed by some dear friends. After trying the meat on several occasions we decided to raise our own. We started with 2 gilts and a barrow. A short time later we picked up a boar and the rest is history.
Our current Berkshire herd consists of Berkshire and Berkshire X pigs. We have finished hogs available twice a year. As we build up our herd we will have finished hogs available year round.
Berkshire meat is not the “other white meat.” It is a very rich, red color which goes right along with its rich flavor. The flavor can’t be adequately described. It must be experienced.
As you can see, this is totally different than grocery store meat.
